My Top Shows for 2008-2009

When I watch an episode of a television series, I rate the episode out of 10. When I have seen every episode from the season, I add all the ratings up to give me a total. Then I divide that total by how many episodes the season had. That gives me an average for the season. I watched 12 shows in the 2008-2009 season, so I did a Top 12 for the season, and to my surprise, my two favourite shows didn't do that well this season (Desperate Housewives and Ghost Whisperer). Here is my Top 12:
.
#1. Grey's Anatomy (Season 5) - 9.66
#2. Lost (Season 5) - 9.64
#3- Harper's Island - 9.46
#4- Brothers & Sisters (Season 3) - 9.37
#5- Private Practice (Season 2) - 9.36

#6- Dollhouse (Season 1) - 9.30
#7- 90210 (Season 1) - 9.29
#8- Desperate Housewives (Season 5) - 9.12
#9- Heroes (Season 3) - 9.08
#10- Supernatural (Season 4) - 9.04
#11- One Tree Hill (Season 6) - 9.00
#12- Ghost Whisperer (Season 4) - 8.65
.
I'm gonna hope my two favourite shows do much better next season, although I don't have much hope for Desperate Housewives to get better with Edie gone, and some spoilers I have read of the upcoming season doesn't give much promise. Ghost Whisperer, however, sounds like it will be a great season so far from the episode summaries I have read.

"Heroes" Season Three Review

Heroes is a show I came to begin watching mid-last year. I didn't exactly fall in love with it or anything, it's just a show I like. Season One was very good, I enjoyed most storylines and there were some stand-out episodes, such as "Homecoming" and "How to Stop an Exploding Man". My favourite character was Claire, and even Nikki. I couldn't stand Mohinder, actually I still can't stand Mohinder, he is so useless and boring, they even tried to make him interesting in Season 3, but it didn't work, it just made him look desperate.
.
Sylar is a great villain, but I'm getting a bit bored of him now, I mean there are only a number of times you can defeat a villain once, but Sylar is like a bad boomerang, and I'm ready to throw that far, far away and hope it never comes back. Season 3 was a great season, possibly my favourite Heroes season so far. It was split into two volumes, "Villains" and "Fugitives".
.
I enjoyed the Villains volume more than Fugitives, but they were both entertaining nonetheless. I was glad to see Elle come back after a few episodes absense, and I loved the "Dying of the Light" episode, with the man who can control people as if they were puppets. The best part of the Volume was probably when Elle became closer to Sylar, only to get killed by him, bless her, I liked her. The finale of the volume was intense and very dramatic and action-packed.
.
I did enjoy Fugitives, I loved the plot how Nathan was capturing people with powers, including some of the Heroes, and taking them to a place against their will. The season was nicely set-up, and another favourite character of mine died, Daphne, it was a beautifully written and acted episode for sure, one of my all-time favourite Heroes episodes.

"90210" Season One Review

I had never seen the original Beverly Hills 90210 series, and so I thought I wouldn't enjoy the series. Turns out that you don't need to see the original series to love this spin-off show from it. All I knew from the original series was that Shannen Doherty (Brenda Walsh in original and spin-off series) was in it, and I love Shannen ever since I had seen Charmed where she played eldest sister witch Prudence Halliwell. It took a while before I got to watching this series, but nonetheless, I finally watched it.
.
The series may not be the best, but it has its own uniqueness, and deserves better ratings than it had been getting. I am still unsure on a favourite character, as all characters have their own quality, and the series got better as it got going. Jennie Garth was also in the original series as Kelly Taylor, and reprises her role in this series, becoming a more prominent character than Brenda Walsh, who I adore.
.
One of my favourite episodes is Off the Rails, beforehand Silver was getting out of hand and uncontrollable with her love for Dixon, and going a bit loop-de-loo, but Silver was so great. It was very dramatic and quite a turn for the series, which had seen parties and fun being more prominent before. The finale was also amazing, again one of the best finales of 2009, and I couldn't help but feel sorry for Annie when Naomi's sister planted her wrap in Naomi's room, and Naomi's sister slept with Naomi's boyfriend, Liam, leaving Annie's wrap in the room so Naomi immediately suspected Annie to have slept with Liam, and doesn't know that it wasn't her and it was in fact her own sister. Naomi confronts Annie in front of everyone in the party (Annie had been accused for selling out someone else's party at the Prom, and people turned on her for it, even though she didn't) and poor Annie had abuse shouted at her from people at the party as well as Naomi, and even some horrible boy throws water or punch in Annie's face which was completely out of order. Poor Annie broke down.
.
I can't wait to see Season 2, to see how Annie develops from a fun, loving young girl to a turned bullied student who will have nothing short of abuse coming her way from every student at school, it's so horrible to Annie, yet so compelling for the viewer.

"Dollhouse" Season One Review

Well I wasn't originally going to watch this series after reading some negative reviews and someone on MSN told me it wasn't worth watching, so I didn't watch it. But after a few months, just last week, I began to watch the series, mainly because I was bored and I had just finished watching Heroes Season 3 after catching up on that. I put on the first episode of the show after researching what it was about on Wikipedia and stuff, and I did enjoy and liked the pilot episode. It wasn't the best, but it had promise. And as I read from some reviews, that the series gets better as it goes along, that from episode 6 onwards is the best of the season, so I believed it, and remained watching the other episodes.
.
I definetly enjoyed the episodes that followed, episode 2, 3, 4 and 5 were all good, and I couldn't wait to watch episodes 6 onwards since they have been so positively viewed from other fans and critics. I found the series intriguing and compelling, it definetly caught my eye and it became one of my favourite seasons in the 2008-2009 season. Eliza Dushku is one of my favourite actresses, and she does an amazing job in the series as the main character Echo (formerly Caroline). The other characters are very likeable also, Sierra, Victor, Mellie, Topher, Dr. Claire Saunders, and even Adelle is likeable, even though she is a strict, bossy woman who runs the L.A. Dollhouse (there are more than one, scattered throughout the world).
.
I love the missions they go on (one of my personal favourites is when Sierra disguises herself as a chinese woman who works at a place where the identity of the Spy in the Dollhouse would be revealed, I found that scene fun when she had to go and make her way through the building). But the finale of season one became a favourite episode for me.
.
The finale was so amazing, the plot was fantastic, and the action in the episode is suspenseful and is definetly one of the best finales of 2009. What I loved most was when Alpha tried to destroy Echo's original memories as Caroline, but Echo has been implanted with her past mission alter-egos and made to be like Alpha, the villain. However, Echo pulls off some really cool fighting moves and saves her original memories. It had a very good cliffhanger, and I can't wait for Season 2 to begin.
.
Season 2 will begin on September 25, 2009 with 13 new episodes, starting with the first under the working title of "Vows". The DVD is already out in America, and the UK will enjoy the series when it comes to DVD on September 7, 2009.

"Private Practice" Season Two Review

Private Practice is a spin-off of Grey's Anatomy, one of my favourite shows, and I didn't immediately watch the series, as I only watched Season One for the first time two months ago as I got the DVD for my birthday, in the UK, it only came out in March 2009, which is really bad. However, I really enjoyed Season 1 and I was glad I asked for it for my birthday. So I had some major catching up to do, as I didn't watch Season 2 immediately, and I finished watching season two earlier this week.
.
Season 2 had just begun on LIVING and I thought I would watch it and decide whether to just watch it once a week on the channel, or catch up on the internet, so I chose the latter, and I was very glad. Season 2 is by any means better than the first season, there are new problems each week, and the episodes are very captivating and watchable, so I will definitely buy the DVD when it comes out like next year for us in the UK.
.
One of the things I hated this season was Dell. I really don't like him, he was okay in the first season, but he really did my head in this season. He just involves himself with everything where his nose doesn't belong, and becomes way too personal with other people's problems and acts like a right huffy woman most of the season, and that really annoyed me.
.
But the best episode? I would say the finale, it was very shocking, and ended on a cliffhanger, like nearly every show in the 2008-2009 season. I think my favourite character this season was Violet, she was amazing, very relaxed and a great character while pregnant, and the ending? Well I won't spoil it but it puts Violet's and the baby's lives in jeapordy. Recomended? If you're a Grey's fan and a fan of Addison Montgomery (which I am) then definetly watch this series.

Find Yourself with "Lost" Season 5 DVD

The fifth season of ABC's LOST will hit stores in America on December 8, 2009. I pre-ordered this DVD quite a while ago now, I absolutely adore the season, it is my favourite season so far of Lost, and to have it in my collection will be amazing, but since I got it from Amazon.com, and I live in the UK, it may take up to 2-4 weeks to arrive to me, so it could be just before or just after Christmas when I get it.
.
I am quite sad that this is the penultimate season, and that Season 6 will be the last, especially since I'm basically a new fan. But I have high hopes for Season 6 (I hope Shannon will come back, and I am so glad Claire has been confirmed to be a regular), and I know that I will not be disappointed.

"Lost" Season Five Review

Best Season Yet. I am seriously in love with this series now. The finale was just the best finale yet, and I absolutely adored the whole series, and in my opinion, the best series in the 2008-2009 season, I have really grown to love Lost profoundly.
.
I wish I watched the series sooner, and I passed judgment on it before I even seen an episode and I shouldn't have. But now that I have seen it all so far, I am very glad I changed my opinion and decided to watch the series. It was quite a confusing season with the whole time-travelling fiascos, but I definetly enjoyed it. And poor Charlotte, when she died I felt sorry fo her, as I do when everyone on the show dies.
.
I loved how all the pieces started to connect, like the Dharma Initiative was explored more and Faraday's mother, which was quite a shocking surprise when she killed him in the past and never knew who he was. When I was losing interest with Lost from last season, this season sure picked up the series and took it to a whole new level of amazement, and I can't repeat myself enough when I say I love it.
.
Now the finale. The finale was fantastic. The huge build up was intense, and the whole episode shone from the whole season. It was the finale that made Season 5 the best for me. Now I am a huge Juliet fan, and I love her to bits, and when the chains wrapped around her and dragged her down the huge hole, I was devastated, I thought she was dead, and I was in tears. Then in the last minute, it shows that she isn't dead, and the bomb that they threw down there before hadn't exploded. So Juliet detonates the bomb, leaving the series on a huge cliffhanger, and Season 6 cannot come fast enough, I definetly need my Lost fix.

"Brothers & Sisters" Season Three Review

Well Brothers & Sisters isn't my favourite show, or in the top 5 I don't think. Mainly because Season 1 and 2 weren't as good as other shows. Don't get me wrong, I really enjoy the show, but it never had the oomph that would make it so special in my eyes. However, after catching up with Season 3, it has proved me wrong.
.
The pilot episode was quite dull, and it didn't draw me in, unlike other shows. But the season got better and better, and the seasons even got better. Season 2 was great, I loved it, I loved the twists and storylines of the season. Too bad that Writers Strike shortened it down.
.
Like Grey's Anatomy and One Tree Hill, I had to catch up with the latest season through the internet because I hadn't watched Season 3 from its premiere. But it gradually got so interesting and entertaining that I began to love the series even more. Season 3 was one of the best of the 2008-2009 seasons out of all my favourite shows, even most episodes were better than "Desperate Housewives", which is my favourite show, so it just shows that it can be just as amazing as the top shows in my eyes.
.
The middle and end of the season was what made the season the best. I loved the family arguments in public places as well as privately, their family bond makes the series watchable and entertaining. I was sad to see Julia go, but Tommy left her no choice I suppose, I think I'll miss Julia more than Tommy. Sarah is my favourite, she was really funny this season, and seeing her land on her feet after all she's been through is really admireable.
.
I recommend giving Brothers & Sisters a chance. I know a few people who turned the series off after the pilot episode, but honestly, the show has gotten so much better since then, and I'm sure I speak for most B&S fans that Season 3 was amazing, and worth buying on DVD.
